Caffeine is a tiny program that puts an icon in the right side of your menubar. Click it to prevent your Mac from automatically going to sleep, dimming the screen or starting screen savers. Click it again to go back. Hold down the Command key while clicking to show the menu.
The menu now has a sub-menu for deactivating Caffeine automatically after a number of minutes.
I have loved this app for a long time, but I found that under Big Sur I was having intermittent problems with error message on time machine, saying TM was unable to complete a backup. The problem was fixed by a reboot, but then would return. For months I thought it was something about my external TM hard drive... Until I tried removing programs one by one from auto startup. And it turned out that when Caffeine was removed, the problem went away. BTW, the same thing applies to Jolt!, another app I had tried. So do give Caffeine a try, but if this problem develops, try removing it and see if it helps.
